GENDER STUDIES 
Gender Studies Specialisation, Sociology Department, Faculty of Social Studies, Masaryk University
Gender studies at the Masaryk university was the first gender studies program established in the Czech Republic (in 2003). It has been accredited as an undergraduate program with strong base in sociology (conceptual and methodological). Since 2019 it was transformed into a study specialisation within the Sociology Program.
It is a teaching and research oriented unit that covers areas such as class, sexuality, education, masculinity studies and sociology of medicine. Its curriculum cultivates critical thinking that fosters deeper understanding of the world we live in and inspires social change. The specialisation prepares students theoretically and methodologically to be able to analyze gender relevant social problems. BA spacialisation graduates might continue in a graduate program of Sociology with gender specialization at the Department of Sociology of our Faculty.
